“He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.” Deuteronomy 10:18 NKJV
In our world, compassion is over look misunderstood. The true meaning of compassion has been downgraded. In our society compassion and charity either go hand in hand, or charity is misunderstood as compassion. Don’t get me wrong! Charity is a world changing thing that requires compassion. But most of the time people refer to charity as someone giving money because they feel guilty. So what does compassion mean you ask? Well, I’ll gladly tell you!
The definition of compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. The bible’s definition of compassion is a form of love that stirs inside us when we are confronted with those who suffer or are vulnerable. Kindness and mercy together create compassion. I know this may sound really basic, but it’s a basic that is often forgotten. God commanded us to have compassion on the poor and less fortunate. To give them a chance to restoration. Something as simple as giving someone homeless on the street your gloves is an act of compassion. When you are moved and have this “butterfly” or urgency inside of you, that’s the love of God over taking you and consuming you with compassion for that person.
Having compassion is so much more than what you have to offer people. It’s a way of life. How you act, treat others, live your life, and so on. Jesus was full of compassion, it was captivating. We are called to love one another, which takes compassion! Helping your neighbor cut their grass, that’s compassion. Volunteering at a rescue mission, that’s compassion. To go to another country to work in an orphanage or build a church, that’s compassion. Your life should be filled with compassion.
Traveling suitcase:
A life with compassion is a happier life, than a life filled with self-centeredness.
